Rubo Voice
Rubo Voice is made by Rubotic. The app is built so that your conversations stay yours: we do not operate any servers, and your recordings, transcripts, and voice data are never sent to us. This policy explains exactly what data the app handles, where it goes, and the choices you have.
The short version
- Your recordings, transcripts, and voice profiles are stored on your device and in your own private iCloud account — not with us.
- We have no servers, no accounts, no analytics, no ads, and no trackers. We cannot see, access, or recover any of your content.
- Transcription and speaker identification run on your device.
- You can delete any recording or voice profile at any time, permanently.
Data the app handles
Audio recordings. When you tap record, Rubo Voice captures audio from your microphone. Recordings are stored in the app's private storage on your device and synced to the private CloudKit database of your personal iCloud account. Apple's iCloud terms and privacy policy govern that storage; Rubotic has no ability to read your private iCloud data.
Transcripts. When you tap Transcribe, speech is converted to text on your device using Apple's speech recognition. On devices that support it (all devices that can run this app), this happens entirely on-device. If on-device recognition is ever unavailable, the app may fall back to Apple's speech recognition service, in which case audio for that transcription is processed by Apple under Apple's privacy policy — iOS shows you this in the speech recognition permission dialog. Transcripts are stored with the recording, on your device and in your iCloud.
Voice profiles. If you name a speaker in a transcript, the app saves a compact numerical “voice fingerprint” (a speaker embedding — not a copy of the audio, and not something audio can be reconstructed from) along with the name you assigned, so that person can be recognized automatically in your future recordings. Voice profiles never leave your device and your iCloud. You can view, rename, and delete them at any time in the Voice Profiles screen. Because voice data can identify a person, some jurisdictions treat it as biometric information — you are responsible for using this feature consistent with your local laws.
Location. When you start a recording, the app may look up your approximate location once to include a place name (like a city) in the recording's default title. The place name is stored as ordinary text with the recording. The app does not track your location, store coordinates, or access location at any other time. You can decline the location permission and everything else still works.
Recording metadata. Names, dates, durations, and file sizes of your recordings are stored alongside them, on your device and in your iCloud.
Data the app does NOT collect
Rubo Voice contains no analytics, no advertising, no crash reporting to us, and no third-party tracking of any kind. We do not collect usage data, device identifiers, contact information, or anything else. There is no Rubotic account and no way for data to reach Rubotic.
Network connections the app makes
- Your private iCloud (Apple), to sync your recordings between your devices.
- Apple, to download the on-device speech recognition language model the first time you transcribe.
- Hugging Face (huggingface.co), to download the on-device speaker-identification models the first time you transcribe. This is a plain file download; no audio or personal content is uploaded.
As with any internet connection, these services can see your IP address when the download or sync occurs.
Deletion
Deleting a recording removes it from your device and, via your iCloud sync, from your other devices. Deleting a voice profile removes that stored voice fingerprint the same way. Because we hold no copies, deletion in the app is deletion everywhere — there is nothing to request from us.
Your responsibilities when recording others
Laws about recording conversations vary by state and country; many places require the consent of one or all participants. You are solely responsible for obtaining any required consent before recording, and for how you use recordings, transcripts, and voice profiles of other people.
Children
Rubo Voice is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly handle children's data (we do not handle anyone's data, as described above).
Changes to this policy
If a future version of the app changes what data is handled — for example, adding an optional cloud feature — we will update this policy and its effective date before the change ships.
