How it works

The grid is the instrument.

    Drop a gem

    Drag any of the five gems off the shelf and onto the grid. The moment it lands, its loop starts playing.

  2. 2

    Move it to change it

    Each of the 15 squares holds a different loop. Slide a gem somewhere new to switch it up, or pull it off the grid to silence it.

  3. 3

    Double-tap to swap

    Double-tap a gem to trade in a different sound pack. Same gem, whole new flavor.

Five gems, fifteen squares, swappable packs. Add it all up and there are over 7 trillion loop combinations.

Mixer

Ride each gem's volume and pan, set the tempo anywhere from 75 to 125 BPM, and fade everything in or out at once.

The story

Before it was Rubo Gems, it was #remix.

It climbed to #1 in the world, got featured by Rolling Stone Magazine, and made it onto a real record: Serj Tankian of System of a Down used it to create three songs on his album Harakiri.

In 2021 it picked up a new name. Same great app. Fifteen years on, people are still making music with it every day.
